Skip, Run, and Go Naked (The Cocktail That Came with a Warning)
Some cocktails arrive with polished names, carefully measured ingredients, and respectable origin stories. This is not one of those cocktails.
The Skip, Run, and Go Naked was built for summer nights, backyard parties, crowded bars, and people who believed mixing whiskey with beer
was a perfectly reasonable life choice. To be fair, it was delicious.
The drink has gone by several names over the years, including Skip and Go Naked, Hop, Skip and Go Naked, Run, Skip and Go Naked, and
Strip and Go Naked. Its exact origin is difficult to pin down, but versions of it were already circulating at college parties, cookouts, and bars
during the 1970s and 1980s.
Modern recipes usually call for vodka, frozen lemonade concentrate, and cheap beer. In my bartending days, however, we made it with whiskey.
Because apparently beer and lemonade weren’t already making enough questionable decisions on their own.
The Skip, Run, and Go Naked was one of those dangerously easy drinks—the kind that tasted light, sweet, and refreshing while quietly dismantling
your better judgment. The lemonade softened the whiskey. The beer added carbonation and made the whole thing go down far too easily. Customers
would order one out of curiosity, a second because the first was surprisingly good, and a third because they had forgotten why ordering a third
might be a bad idea. That was usually when the name started sounding less like a joke and more like a set of instructions.
The cocktail may not have actually caused anyone to lose their clothing, but after more than fifteen years behind the bar, I can confirm that alcohol
has convinced people to remove clothing for far less creative reasons.

Lemon wedge, optional

So, for July 2026, raise a glass to the Skip, Run, and Go Naked—a refreshing combination of whiskey, lemonade, beer, and the kind of confidence
that usually disappears when the pictures are posted the next morning.
Drink responsibly. And keep your clothes where you can find them.
